Here is what I am about. And here is what I am not about.

I am a catalyst.

My superpower is rooted in relationship-building and the ability to connect the dots so that we see the forest and the trees and actualize the change and transformation we seek.

I integrate 20+ years of research, strategy, strategic communication, and business development with regenerative business principles to catalyze the deep transformative work necessary to redesign business for good in our emergent next economy.

I am a radical strategist.

While I hold a BA in Cognitive Science from UC Berkeley and a PhD in Education from Stanford University, my work is deeply influenced by popular education and embodied learning and unlearning.

I integrate my lineage of thought to create strategic insights grounded in collective transformation and systemic change.

I am a voracious reader and lifelong learner and my lineage of thought outlined below is the root system feeding my work.

I am a storyteller.

I write so I can create the world I want to live in.

My writing began in academia as a linguistic anthropologist focused on the power of discourse and narrative change and has evolved into a passion for strategic communication that builds relationships and organizations of the future.

I believe storytelling can be a creative act of transformation when we allow it to illuminate our interconnectedness instead of leveraging it as a commodity. I approach storytelling as an art of stewarding our thoughts with intention and purpose. You can find my writing home here at Unravel.

My Thought Lineage + Lexicon

My framework of UnBecoming is emergent from a lineage of visionaries that have and continue to shape my consciousness.

UnBecoming is rooted in the Two Loops Model of Systems Change, developed by Margaret Wheatly and Deborah Frieze at the Berkana Institute; and in abolitionist praxis grounded in the work of Patrisse Cullors and her lineage of abolitionist comrades including Angela Y. Davis and Mariame Kaba.

I divest from the capitalist commodification of knowledge and “banking concept of education” and ground teaching and learning as radical liberatory praxis, embodied in Paulo Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed.

I center systemic change and collective liberation in solidarity with a lineage of queer Black liberatory thinkers and activists. Audre Lorde, bell hooks, Combahee River Collective, and Cathy J. Cohen are among my earliest influences; I consider adrienne maree brown, Alexis Pauline Gumbs, Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, Mariame Kaba, Susan Raffo, and Prentis Hemphill and many others as current guides.

I center liberatory praxis in alignment with Barbara Love’s “Developing a Liberatory Consciousness” framework and Desiree Adaway’s expansion of this in her work.

I approach leadership, organizational, and collective change through the lens of Emergent Strategy as practiced by adrienne maree brown and comrades.

I am not here for white feminism, or any feminist empowerment lens that does not explicitly center, prioritize, amplify, and financially support queer, non-binary, trans, and BIPOC voices, bodies, and work.

I am here for feminist practice that is intersectional, centers blackness, and brings “those in margin to center,” as bell hooks taught us in Feminist Theory: From Margin To Center.

I am not here for binary thinking or gender essentialism.

I am here for us standing in the full expansive spectrum of our bodies, identities, and imagination.

I am not here for personal or professional transformation practices that are built on spiritual bypassing, toxic positivity, or any attempt to ignore the very real constraints that oppressive structures have on our personal and professional lives.

I am committed to work that is antiracist, abolitionist, decolonizing, and stewards our next economy by transforming our organizational practices, our relationships, and how we show up in community.

I am here in lifelong unlearning and learning.

So that we all thrive.
